The International Institute for Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics

The International Institute for Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics (I.I.A.S.) is a non-profit, non-sectarian educational organization committed to the development and promotion of Cybernetics and Systems Research in all areas of human endeavour. It is devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies in the sciences, engineering, arts and humanities.

The Institute aims to encourage and facilitate interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary communication and cooperation amongst scholars, scientists, engineers, educators and professionals working in different fields, and to develop those areas of research that will most benefit from such cooperation.

Through its international conferences, symposia and workshops, the Institute provides a forum for presentation and discussion of current advances in systems research and developments in the humanities, sciences and engineering.

Since its inception in 1980, the Institute has promoted and facilitated numerous international cooperative research projects, and has organized a series of important international meetings. The Institute has also published many books and conference proceedings some of which are listed in the enclosure.

I.I.A.S. has been collaborating with various national and international organizations and associations. It has been extensively involved with the International Association of Cybernetics in organizing tri-annual International Congresses of Cybernetics in Namur, Belgium. In cooperation with UNESCO, the Institute has sponsored Special Focus Symposia on the Culture of Peace in Baden-Baden, Germany.

The International Institute for Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics is committed to the promotion of peace, freedom, justice, human dignity, and personal responsibility. The Institute aims to foster advanced studies and systems research of issues concerning the quality of human life. It also aims to organize, on an international basis, competent individuals for creative studies and research of innovative ways and means that would contribute to the survival of the human race. The Institute seeks to act as a catalyst to synergistically effectuate the desired social changes that will lead to an improved quality of human life on our planet Earth.

The International Institute for Advanced Studies also aims to create a body of navigators, in the form of an international association of scientists, philosophers, artists, writers and teachers, dedicated to the public service of charting new courses across the dangerous and turbulent seas of our political and social culture. It will dedicate itself to the active expansion of democracy, and participatory self-governance as a means of enhancing the dignity, peace, equality and freedom of all people. This body of navigators will use critical reflection, principled action, and education to counter passive acceptance of control, compliance, and the politics of mere consent. It will seek to expand and enhance reciprocal relationships among fellow human beings through an integration of interests and the development of collaborative consciousness.
